Author Guidelines
Water Nepal invites contribution on various issues of water resource development and management. Article should be typed and of about three to four thousand words. Also requested are discussion papers on published articles. The responsibility for the content and opinion expressed in the article lies with the authors, but the editor and editorial board has the final decision to publish any article.
Copyright: Except for quotes (duly credited) for academic purposes, reproduction of original articles published in Water Nepal is not allowed without permission.
Manuscript: All manuscripts should be submitted to: Editor, Water Nepal, Nepal Water Conservation Foundation, PO Box 2221, Kathmandu, Nepal. It is assumed that the submitted manuscripts are original, unpublished works and are not being submitted elsewhere. Unpublished articles will not be returned.
One original copy and one photocopy, typed in double space on standard 8.5x11 in or 21x29.6 cm bond paper are required along with digital version. Notes and references should also be double-spaced. Authors' names, postal and email addresses, as well as academic or professional affiliations should accompany the article. The title of the article should follow with an abstract of up to about 200 words. The text proper begins on the following page and ends with a citation of acknowledgments whenever appropriate. References, tables, and figure captions should be all double-spaced. Tables and figures should be numbered in order of their appearance in Arabic numerals and each should have a title with their location clearly indicated. Footnotes and endnotes should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals.
Mathematical Notation: Use typewritten letters, numbers, and symbols whenever possible. Identify boldface, script letters, etc., at their first occurrence. Distinguish between one and the letter "I" and between zero and the letter "O" whenever confusion might result. International System of Unit should be used as closely as possible.
References: References should be cited in the text by author's last name followed by year of publication, e.g., (Shrestha, 1990). Footnotes to the text are indicated by superior numbers and are placed at the bottom of the page where cited. Reference should be listed at the end of the paper alphabetically by author's name. The following reference style should be used:
Journal article: Thompson, M. and Warburton, M., 1985: Uncertainty on a Himalayan scale, Mountain Research and Development Vol 5, No. 2, pp. 115-135.
Book: Linsley, R. K., Kohler, M. A., Paulhus, J. L., 1958: Hydrology for Engineers, New York, McGraw Hills.
Chapter in edited book: Upadhyay, M., 1998: Bhattedanda Milkway: Making Markets Accessible to Marginalised Farmers in Ropeways in Nepal, Gyawali D. and Dixit A. (ed.) Upayukta Prabidhi Prakashan, Kathmandu.
Theses, reports, and other unpublished material: Style as a book with as much source material as possible.
Illustrations: Black-and-white photographs on glossy paper should, where needed, accompany the original copy of the manuscript. Some drawings may be redone for consistency.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
- When available, the URLs to access references online are provided, including those for open access versions of the reference. The URLs are ready to click (e.g., http://pkp.sfu.ca).
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review) have been followed.
