Their stings are not usually life threatening, causing mainly local reactions and rarely anaphylaxis and serious systemic manifestations. Though a few stings cause no major problems, multiple stings can cause serious effects like massive hemolysis, acute renal failure, encephalopathy, multiorgan dysfunction.
