Abstract

Nepal’s political landscape has transformed significantly since the abolition of the monarchy in 2008 and the establishment of a federal democratic republic. This qualitative study examines the emergence of Generation Z (Gen-Z) as a distinct political generation and its influence on changing patterns of political paradigm in Nepal. Drawing on Generational Political Theory, the study conceptualizes Gen-Z’s political consciousness as shaped by democratization, globalization, digital communication, and global cultural exposure. Political Opportunity Structure theory further explains how federal decentralization, expanding civic space, and technological connectivity facilitate new forms of youth mobilization. Domino and Containment theories situate Nepal’s political transformation within broader geopolitical concerns regarding the regional influence of left-oriented politics. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically. The findings reveal growing political awareness among Gen-Z, expressed through digital activism, issue-based mobilization, civic engagement, and skepticism toward traditional political parties. The study concludes that Gen-Z is contributing to a significant transformation of Nepal’s political culture and participatory practices.
