It employs an Ordinary Least Square technique and finds that proportion of FDI, export, government expenditure, and total debt as a percent of GDP have had a significant impact on GDP growth and GDP per capita growth of China. In addition, human capital largely contributes to economic growth. 1 percent increase in the level of human capital induces 0.21 percent increase in the economic growth for the short run and 0.39 percent increase in China in the long run. Similarly, urbanization induces a positive impact on GDP growth in the long run. Hence, a higher level of human capital and conducive business environment entice a higher inflow of FDI which helps to internalize the modern technology in different sectors of the economy for sustainable economic growth in China.
Kamal Paudel Copyright (c) 2021 Research and Education Development Project Management Committee Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus Sun, 01 Aug 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Tourism and Women Employment Generation in Nepal
The objective of this research paper was to explore and analyze the money-making activities of women in tourism industry of Nepal in Pashupati Nath Area. A descriptive study was carried out among 70 respondents from July 15, 2019 to July 24, 2020 in the Pashupatinath area, using a convenience sampling method. Data were obtained from face-to-face interviews, questionnaire, and observation. A fair investment in business activities was found in the study area. Most of the items were bought in Nepal, India, and China. Rudrachhyas were found as the main items that were sold in highest number. The lack of co-ordination from the local stakeholders was observed as a major problem faced by the business people. The study suggests that there should be an effective co- ordination from the related stakeholders for the sustainability of tourism and business activities. The stakeholders’ involvement could take place in several ways, such as providing financial resources, training and education, cost sharing, management of spill over, and reducing disparities. These overall activities may help to attract more customers, finally help to sustain businesses, and increase the economic scope of the study area. Income earned by women before and after working in this sector is statistically significant. P- Value is .001 < .01 indicates the same fact. It rejects the null hypothesis there is no difference in mean income received by women entrepreneurs / employees in their respective works. H. Lawrence's Poem "Love on the Farm"
This research article is based on the concept of harmonious interdependence between nature, living beings, and non-living beings for the sustained ecological balance. It makes an analysis of a poem by D.H. Lawrence, entitled “Love on the Farm” from deep ecological critical perspective. As a term, deep ecology explores how human beings, creatures, plants and trees are connected in the organic chain. Coined by Norwegian philosopher, named Aryan Naess, deep ecology became an assertive response to the menace of environmental crises taken place in different parts of the world. Considering its far-reaching consequences, universities and academic institutions began to study it seriously. As a result, initiatives were taken to broaden its study premise. Courses were devised and literary works were begun to be interpreted from ecological perspective and research outcomes produced significant insights and conclusions in order to explore this subject matter more comprehensively. On this backdrop, this article fundamentally sets three dominant premises for this research study: a) Human beings are sole causes for environmental loss, and, b) Ecological chain is prerequisite for the survival of the whole planet. On considering these premises, this present research article explores deep ecological elements in the poem “Love on the Farm” and how they are disturbed by domineering and more anthropocentric attitude of human beings. In proving the claim, this article takes first wave of eco criticism as a theoretical tool propounded by eco- critics like Jonathan Bate, Cheryll Gotfelty, and Lyn White, Jr. Then, it analyzes the poem, justifying how conflict with nature and ecology causes disturbance in entire environment. Finally, it concludes: ecological balance is the long-term solution to the survival of living and non-living beings as well as the longevity of whole planet.
Bam Dev Sharma Copyright (c) 2021 Research and Education Development Project Management Committee Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus Sun, 01 Aug 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Antithesis to Machismo in the Poetry of Parijat and Kundan Sharma
This research paper tries to provide an analysis, from the feministic approach, of the Nepali modernist poetry written by Parijat and Kundan Sharma. They were the avant-garde female poets of the 1960s in Nepali literature to write on the gender issues threatening the patriarchal system. Their antithetical stand to machismo was inspired by the Western academic and literary tradition. Some of the women characters in Parijat's poems are found to have been sufferer under triple marginalization, namely, from the perspectives of economic status, caste and gender. In spite of the fact that the society in the 1960s was inhospitable to gender equality and women's rights, these poets brilliantly articulated agonizing experiences of gender bias pervasive in both textual and practical world. Undoubtedly, the preliminary moderate feministic voice in Nepali poetry initiated by Parijat and Kundan played a significant role to deconstruct myths about women institutionalized by text, tradition and socio-cultural context. Unlike the usual reading, this study shows how these two pioneer female poets initiated revolutionary zeal to defy status quo based on traditional gender role.
Dhundi Raj Niroula Copyright (c) 2021 Research and Education Development Project Management Committee Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus Sun, 01 Aug 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Pinion Imagery in Chopin’s The Awakening
This research explores the pinion imagery in Kate Chopin’s novel The Awakening. It also endeavours to find out their strategy and mission of exposing the superiority complex of the humans guided by anthropocentrism and highlighting the significance of ecocentrism necessary for creating balance in ecosystem and human lives. This paper assertively justifies that the poets, through their poems, depict the humans as problems and nature as solution of all problems due to its opposite qualities and the quality of timelessness and spacelessness. To justify the argument, ideas and notions of ecocritics Timothy Clark, Bill Devall and Stan Rowe have been brought as references. Mainly, this research work attempts to excavate and publicize how the writers make ecocritical discourse in demolishing, transforming and raising ecoconsciousness within the people (readers) for environmental preservation and conservation of lives. Grace is acquitted as murderess and sent to jail, and to the lunatic asylum to make her docile and succumb to sovereign power. It is biopolitics, the sovereign power over populations that is deployed via social institutions to make her manageable and go docile. Through the state apparatuses the biopolitical governmentality constitutes and disseminates knowledge that helps Grace formulate her subjectivity and subjects to the law. Being a woman, she is discarded, sexually abused, and retained in bare life in the jail. In particular, her resignation to the power marks the inclusive exclusion and political violence over her. This reflect her perennial exclusion from social life. Finally, her servitude, amnesty and wedding epitomizes her oikos and docility under the (bio)political violence.
Pradip Sharma Copyright (c) 2021 Research and Education Development Project Management Committee Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus Sun, 01 Aug 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Nostalgia as a Diasporic Representation in Govinda Raj Bhattarai's Muglan
The major focus of this paper is on ‘nostalgia’ as a diasporic representation in Muglan, a novel by Govinda Raj Bhattarai. The main characters Sutar Kanchho, Thule, Shekhar Karki, Rai Kanchho and many others leave home in the eastern Nepal and go to India for joining the Indian army. When they are misguided to Bhutan from Siliguri, India and made to work in the Road Construction site, they know that their dream of being army and earn a lot for their families can never come true. They are forced to work hard for almost no payment. Some of them die of hunger. They remember home, family members, cattle, field and relatives in their village in Nepal. They hope to return home one day, but that day never comes. Some of them die helplessly. Because of extreme exploitation over them, they feel alienated and displaced which cause nostalgia in them. Since nostalgia is one of the important features of diaspora, the experience of the characters in Muglan is diasporic. As this study is based on qualitative research the researcher has consulted books, reviews and journal articles related to ‘nostalgia’ and ‘diaspora.’ This is a new concept in the research on Muglan. It will be a new way for the support of the upcoming researchers in the concerned area.
Ram Prasad Rai Copyright (c) 2021 Research and Education Development Project Management Committee Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus Sun, 01 Aug 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Quest for Idyllic Pleasure in Kincaid's Among Flowers: A Walk in the Himalaya
This study reads Jamaica Kincaid's travel text, Among Flowers: A Walk in the Himalaya (2005), as the author's quest for idyllic pleasure. Despite her identification as an anti-imperialist writer with her previous works, Kincaid turns towards simply inventing a garden in her hometown, Vermont in this text for aesthetic pleasure. Her arduous journey to the Eastern Himalayan landscape of Nepal for the quest of gardenworthy seeds to grow back in her private garden is intimately fraught with her passions of flowers. Engaging with the critical views of available critics such as Jill Didur, Pallavi Rastogi, Racia Anne Chansky and others on the book as well as concepts from travel writing theory, my study argues that Among Flowers: A Walk in the Himalaya bears Kincaid's search for idyllic pleasure of gardening rather than any imperialist or anti-imperialist underpinnings.
Toya Nath Upadhyay Copyright (c) 2021 Research and Education Development Project Management Committee Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus Sun, 01 Aug 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Sustainable Rural Tourism Development in Bandipur, Tanahun District
Nepal is uniquely endowed with rich and diverse natural and imaginative attraction due to its geographical location and cultural uniqueness in the Himalaya. Despite having the different policy and legal provisions, the incident of domestic violence is still exacerbating in Nepal. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the significant role of education for reducing physical, sexual and emotional violence against women. The study uses the data of Nepal Demographic and Health Survey 2016 which focuses on the 4,444 women ages 15 to 49 years having multiple background characteristics. Mainly, univariate, bi-variate and logistic regression analysis is applied to analyze the data. There is an inverse relationship between the level of education and the degree of violence. The level of education has the strongest and positive effect on reducing violence. The higher level of education has significant effect on reducing physical violence [pushed, shook or had something thrown (OR=0.27, CI: 0.16-0.43), slapped (OR=0.17, CI: 0.12-0.26) and kicked or dragged (OR: 0.11, CI: 0.05-0.23)], sexual violence [physically forced into unwanted sex (OR=0.35, CI: 0.19-0.62) and in forced into other unwanted sexual acts (OR=0.22, CI: 0.08-0.61)] and emotional violence [humiliation (OR=0.28, CI: 0.15-0.50), threat (OR=0.16, CI: 0.07-0.41) and insult (OR=0.36, CI: 0.22-0.58). There is an inverse relationship between the level of education and violence against women in Nepal. Women with higher level of education have significantly contributed to reducing either type of violence and vice versa. So, women’s education can be regarded as a prominent contributing factor for reducing domestic violence in Nepal.
Mahendra Kumar Rai Copyright (c) 2021 Research and Education Development Project Management Committee Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus Sun, 01 Aug 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Women’s Empowerment in Household Decision-making among the Poor and Non-poor in Nepal
Women empowerment is taken as one of the major agenda for the twenty-first century in national and international development issues. The primary objective of this study is to examine the factors associated with women empowerment in household decision-making among poor and non-poor women in Nepal. This study uses data from the 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey. The analytic sample size of this study is 9575 currently married women aged 15-49. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression was used to examine the effect of demographic and socio-economic variables on women empowerment in household decision-making. The analysis of the result showed there is a significantly high variation between empowerment status and demographic and socio-economic background among the poor and non-poor. Women who have more children, older age, working women, and residing in urban areas were significant association and more likely to empower in household decision-making than having no children, young age and not working women among both poor and non-poor household wealth. However, women have significantly more decision-making power among non-educated women to compare with educated among poor; it is a quite inverse result among non-poor. Thus, this study suggests that it needs to identify and explore the pertinent issues with genuine reasons of the gap to be empowered in a variety of groups of population in Nepal.
Rita Devi Karki, Naba Raj Thapa Copyright (c) 2021 Research and Education Development Project Management Committee Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus Sun, 01 Aug 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Physical and Mental Health Problems of Elderly People at Nagarjun Municipality in Kathmandu
Aging is a gradual, continuous process of natural change that begins in early adulthood.
