समाजशास्त्रीय दृष्टिमा ‘कर्तव्य’ कथा

Abstract

प्रस्तुत लेख गुरुप्रसाद मैनालीद्वारा रचित ‘कर्तव्य’ कथामा प्रतिबिम्बित सामाजिक यथार्थ र दृष्टिकोणको विश्लेषणमा आधारित छ । यस कथामा समाजमा घट्ने यथार्थ घटनालाई चित्रण गरी पैतृक सम्पत्तिका कारणले दाजुभाइबिचको विभाजनले नेपाली ग्रामीण समाजमा पारेको प्रभावलाई यसमा उजागर गरिएको छ । नैतिक आदर आत्मसात गर्ने पुरानो पुस्ता र प्रगतिशील भन्ने नयाँ पुस्ताबिचको वर्गीय द्वन्द्वलाई प्रस्तुत गर्दै नेपाली ग्रामीण समाजमा घटेको घटनालाई यथार्थवादी दृष्टिकोणबाट प्रस्तुत गर्दै समाजमा रहेको दुई वर्ग वा समुदायको वा दुई पुस्ता यहाँ प्रस्तुत भएको छ । आदर्शोन्मुख यथार्थवादी धाराका प्रवर्तक मैनालीले यस कथामा ग्रामीण नेपाली समाजको पारिवारिक संरचना, दाजुभाइबिचको सम्बन्ध र व्यक्तिगत स्वार्थमाथि सामाजिक उत्तरदायित्वको विजयलाई चित्रण गरेका छन् । ‘कर्तव्य’ कथामा अन्तर्निहित सामाजिक मूल्य र नैतिक चेतनाको विश्लेषण गर्नु यस आलेखको मुख्य उद्देश्य रहेको छ । यस अध्ययनले गुणात्मक विधिलाई अवलम्बन गरी कथाभित्रका सामाजिक द्वन्द्व, पितृसत्तात्मक मर्यादा र नैतिक मूल्यहरूको समाजशास्त्रीय व्याख्या गरेको छ । प्रकार्यवादी सिद्धान्त र सामाजिक अन्तर्क्रियावादलाई सैद्धान्तिक आधार मानेर यस कथालाई विश्लेषण गरिएको छ । पितृसत्तात्मक दृष्टिकोण, भाइचाराको सम्वन्ध र त्यागको संस्कृतिलाई प्राप्तिका रूपमा लिइएको यस कथाले व्यक्तिगत स्वतन्त्रताभन्दा सामाजिक सद्भाव र कर्तव्य पालना नै सुखी समाजको आधार हो भन्ने दृष्टिकोण अघि सारेर साहित्यका समाजशास्त्रीय दृष्टिलाई मात्र मूल आधार बनाएर विश्लेषण गरेको छ ।

{The present article is based on the analysis of the social reality and perspective reflected in the short story Kartavya (Duty) written by Guruprasad Mainali. The story portrays real-life social events and highlights the impact of the division among brothers over ancestral property on Nepali rural society. By presenting the class conflict between the older generation, which internalized moral values and respect, and the younger generation, which considers itself progressive, the story realistically depicts social events occurring in rural Nepal and presents two distinct classes, communities, or generations within society.
As a pioneer of ideal-oriented realism, Mainali illustrates in this story the family structure of rural Nepali society, the relationship between brothers, and the triumph of social responsibility over personal interests. The main objective of this article is to analyze the social values and moral consciousness embedded in the story Kartavya. Adopting a qualitative research approach, the study provides a sociological interpretation of the social conflicts, patriarchal norms, and moral values reflected in the story.
The story has been analyzed by taking functionalist theory and symbolic interactionism as its theoretical foundations. Considering the patriarchal perspective, brotherhood, and the culture of sacrifice as its major findings, the story advances the view that social harmony and the fulfillment of duties, rather than individual freedom alone, form the foundation of a happy society. The analysis is primarily based on the sociological perspective of literature.}
