Focus and Scope

Nepalese Medical Journal is an official peer reviewed biomedical journal of Health Education Agriculture Development (HEAD) Nepal. It will be published bi-annually. Nepalese Medical Journal receives original material of interest to the practitioners and scientists in the field of medicine related to the recent developments in Medical Sciences. Articles describing original clinical or laboratory investigations and case reports along with editorials and review of selected topics will be considered for publication. From time to time invited articles, Clinical Problem-solving, View points and Student sections will be published.

Peer Review Process

Upon submission of an article by the author, the article is grossly reviewed by editor. The Editor decides whether reviews from additional experts are needed to evaluate the manuscript. After agreeing to review a manuscript, external reviewers are typically granted 10 days to complete the assignment. We will follow up with late reviewers and keep authors informed if there are any delays. Reviewers are anonymous by default.

Reviewers’ identities are not revealed to authors or to other reviewers unless reviewers specifically request to be identified by signing their names at the end of their comments. The Editor is anonymous to authors and reviewers unless and until a manuscript is accepted for publication. The names of the authors and place of research are anonymous to reviewers during review. Authors may enter the names of potential peer reviewers they wish to exclude from consideration in the peer review of their manuscript.  The editorial team will respect these requests so long as this does not interfere with the objective and thorough assessment of the submission. The majority of submissions are evaluated by 2 external reviewers, but it is up to the Academic Editor to determine the number of reviews required.

Nepalese Medical Journal editors review each manuscript meticulously based on the comments from the reviewers and make a final decision to either reject or publish it. The contributors will be informed about the reviewers' comments, acceptance or rejection of the manuscript. Articles accepted will be copy edited for grammar, punctuation, print style and format. Page proofs will be sent to the corresponding author, which has to be returned to the editorial office within seven days. Non response may delay the publication of the article or even result in being rejected.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper.

Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself/ herself from the review process.

Any manuscript received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
