प्रश्नहरूको कारखाना कविता सङ्ग्रहमा नारीविद्रोह {Women's Rebellion in the Questions Factory Poetry Collection}

प्रस्तुत लेखमा सरिता तिवारीको ‘प्रश्नहरूको कारखाना’ (२०७२) कवितासङ्ग्रहलाई पाठका रूपमा लिई त्यसमा प्रयुक्त नारीविद्रोहका विविध आयामहरूको विश्लेषण गरिएको छ । ‘प्रश्नहरूको कारखाना’ कवितासङ्ग्रहमा अन्य विषयका अतिरिक्त वर्तमान नेपाली समाजमा रहेको पुँजीवाद र यसैसँग गठजोड गरिरहेका सामन्तवाद र पितृसत्तात्मक व्यवस्थाले नारीहरूमाथि आर्थिक, सामाजिक र सांस्कृतिक आधारमा विभिन्न शोषण र उत्पीडन गरेको यथार्थलाई देखाउँदै तीविरुद्ध विद्रोही चेतनाको अभिव्यक्ति भएको छ । यस कवितासङ्ग्रहका नारीकेन्द्री कवितामा वर्तमान नेपाली नारीहरू पितृसत्तात्मक सामन्तवादी र पुँजीवादी उत्पादनव्यवस्थाद्वारा परिवार, समाज, राज्य र विश्वव्यवस्थाकै तहबाट अन्तर्संरचित र व्यवस्थित भएको उत्पीडनबाट प्रताडित भएको चिन्तन प्रस्तुत भएको छ । यस सङ्ग्रहका नारीविषयक कवितामा नेपाली नारीमाथि भएका विविध शोषणका स्वरूपबाट मुक्तिका लागि नारीहरूकै नेतृत्वमा सङ्गठित र प्रतिबद्ध सङ्घर्षको आवश्यकतालाई देखाइएको छ । नेपाली समाजको लैङ्गिक उत्पीडनकारी व्यवस्था अन्त्य गर्नका लागि गरिनेसङ्घर्ष राजनीतिक र सामाजिक दुवै तहबाट गरिनुपर्ने विचार यी कविताहरूमा व्यक्त भएको छ ।

रामप्रकाश पुरीकृत ‘नानीकी आमा’ (२०६३) मुख्यतः वैचारिक उपन्यास हो। परम्परित औपन्यासिक शैली भन्दा फरक प्रकारले निर्माण भएको हुँदा उपन्यास प्रयोगशील रहेको छ । उपन्यासमा दर्शन, विचार, राजनीति, सङ्घर्ष आदि विषयमा गम्भीर वहसका साथै गहन र उच्च प्रकारले विचारको प्रस्तुति गरिएको छ । उपन्यासमा सन्दर्भित गरिएका प्रेम, सम्बन्ध, आक्रोश, वेदना, खुसी, क्रान्ति, आशा, विश्वास, आस्था आदिको औचित्य पुष्टिका लागि सतहमा आएका विभिन्न पात्रको प्रभावकारी भूमिकाले उपन्यासलाई कलात्मक र वैचारिक दुबै रूपमा सफल बनाइदिएको छ । क्रान्तिको पक्षबाट वैचारिक पैरवी भएपनि क्रान्तिका नाममा भएका वैचारिक भ्रष्टीकरणलाई अस्वीकार गरिएको छ । वर्गीय प्रेमको संस्कार वर्गीयतामाथि आधारित हुन्छ भन्ने माक्र्सवादी दृष्टिकोणलाई सांस्कृतिक संस्कार बनाउन आह्वान गरिएको छ । सामाजिक परिवर्तनको गन्तव्यको लागि वर्गसङ्घर्षको उथलपूथलकारी कार्यविधिलाई आधारको रूपमा माक्र्सवादी–लेनिनवादी सिद्धान्तलाई लिइएको छ । उपन्यासमा सिद्धान्तलाई जीवनका लागि स्वीकार गरिएको भएपनि जीवनका लागि गलत सिद्धान्तको मार्ग अस्वीकृत गरिएको छ । जीवनका लागि आस्था निर्माण भएको छ र त्यसलाई ढल्न नदिन बलिदानी भएको छ र जीवनका नयाँ ढोका खोलिएका छन्। विचारको गहनताले भरिएको ‘नानीकी आमा’ उपन्यासको वैचारिकता द्वन्द्वात्मक भौतिकवादी दार्शनिक पद्धतिमाथि आधारित छ । विपरित विचारको अस्तित्वलाई उपन्यासमा सहर्ष स्वीकार गरिएको छ । विपरित विचारको द्वन्द्वले नयाँ तथ्यलाई अगाडि ल्याउन सक्ने ऐतिहासिक भौतिकवादी नियमको प्रचलित मान्यतालाई उपन्यासले स्वीकार गरेको छ । सामाजिक परिवर्तनको लागि द्वन्द्व अनिवार्य छ र प्रगतिशील वर्गको विजय अवश्यमभावी तथ्य हो भन्ने उपन्यासको वैचारिक निष्कर्ष रहेको छ । क्रान्तिको अवश्यमभावी तथ्यप्रति उपन्यासले विश्वास उत्पन्न गराउँछ । द्वन्द्वात्मक भौतिकवादलाई स्वीकार गर्नु, क्रान्तिको पक्षमा पैरवी गर्नु, नयाँ समाजको योजना प्रस्तुत गर्नु र विद्यमान व्यवस्थाका विरुद्ध उभिनुले उपन्यासको वैचारिक पक्ष प्रगतिशील र प्रगतिवादी रहेको छ ।

तिजका गीतको सांस्कृतिक महत्व {Cultural significance of Teej songs}

संस्कृति मानव जीवनका अन्तर तथा बाह्य स्वरूपलाई शुद्धीकरण गर्ने महत्वपूर्ण माध्यम हो। यसले मानवका मूल्यमान्यतालाई जीवन्त बनाउन मद्दत गर्दछ । हाम्रा पूर्वजद्वारा समाजलाई व्यवस्थित बनाउन अपनाइएका विधि नै संस्कृति हुन्। मानवका आचार, व्यवहार र सामूहिक क्रियाकलापबाट संस्कृतिको जन्म भएको हो। संस्कृतिलाई उजागर गर्ने प्रमुख माध्यमचाहिँ लोक हो। लोकको अभिन्न अङ्ग बनेर शारीरिक र मानसिक संस्व्रिया गर्ने कर्म विशेष संस्कृति हो। लोकसाहित्यका विधा उपविधामध्ये लोकगीत प्रमुख विधा मानिन्छ । सुन्न, सुनाउन र ग्रहण गर्न सजिलै सकिने भएकाले लोकसाहित्यका अन्य विधाका तुलनामा लोकगीतले ख्याति कमाएको छ ।लोकगीतका विभिन्न प्रकारमध्ये पर्व गीत पनि एक हो। धार्मिक तथा सांस्कृतिक मान्यताबाट स्थापित तिज पर्वमा गीतको महत्वपूर्ण स्थान छ । नारीहरूले यस पर्वमा आफ्ना मनका व्यथा, कुण्ठा, अभाव, पीडा र इच्छाहरूलाई गीतका माध्यमबाट निसङ्कोच व्यक्त गर्छन्। तिजका गीतले परम्परित संस्कारजन्य विषयलाई पनि समेट्छ । खासगरी चेली माइतीबिचको सम्बन्ध र पराई घरमा भोग्नुपरेका समस्यालाई मर्मस्पर्शी भावमा व्यक्त गर्छन्। लवाइखवाइ, वेशभूषा, गरगहना आदि अनेक सांस्कृतिक विषयलाई तिजका गीतमा प्रस्तुत गरिन्छ ।अतः तिजका गीत नेपाली मौलिक संस्कृतिको संरक्षण र संवद्र्धन गर्ने सशक्त माध्यम बनेको छ ।

प्रस्तुत लेख स्नातकोत्तर तहको वार्षिक प्रणाली अन्तर्गतको शोधपत्र लेखनसँग सम्बन्धित छ । त्यसैले यो लेखको उद्देश्य स्नातकोत्तर तहको वार्षिक प्रणाली अन्तर्गत शोधपत्र लेखनको सैद्धान्तिक र व्यावहारिक पक्षहरूको वर्णन गर्नुका साथै शोधपत्र लेखनको विषयगत प्रवृत्तिको परीक्षण, शोधपत्र लेखनमा आइपर्ने समस्या र त्यसको समाधानका उपायहरूको खोजी गर्नु रहेको छ । जसका लागि रत्न राज्यलक्ष्मी क्याम्पसको समाजशास्त्र तथा मानवशास्त्र विभागमा स्तानकोत्तर तहको वार्षिक प्रणाली अन्तर्गत मौखिक परीक्षा (भाइभा) सम्पन्न भई स्वीकृत भएका शोधपत्रहरूको अभिलेखलाई प्राथमिक स्रोतको आधार मानिएको छ । त्यसैले प्राप्त तथ्याङ्कहरूलाई वर्णनात्मक ढाँचाको प्रयोग गरी व्याख्या तथा विश्लेषण गरिएको छ । निष्कर्षमा, शोधपत्र लेखनको प्रवृत्तिमा सम्बन्धित विषयवस्तुको तथ्याङ्क उपलब्धता, विषयवस्तुप्रतिको रुचि, शोध निर्देशकसँगको शैक्षिक अन्तरक्रिया र समसामयिक विषयवस्तुले शोध शीर्षकको छनौटलाई निर्धारण गरेको पाइयो। साथै, शोधार्थीहरूमा शैक्षिक उपाधि हासिल गर्ने उत्सुकता, नयाँ ज्ञान प्राप्ति र सो ज्ञानलाई आफ्नो शोधपत्रमा सरल र सहज रूपमा प्रस्तुतीकरण गर्नका लागि पनि रुचि भएको पाइयो। अर्कोतर्फ सैद्धान्तिक विषयवस्तुको ज्ञानमा कमि, सम्बन्धित शैक्षिक निर्देशिका र ढाँचाप्रतिको अन्यौल, समय अनुकूलतामा व्यावहारिक समस्याका साथै प्रशासनिक प्रक्रियामा पनि केही समस्या भएको पाइयो।

प्रस्तुत लेखमा नेपालको लोकतान्त्रिक आन्दोलनमा जनताको बहुदलीय जनवादको भूमिका कस्तो छ भन्ने जिज्ञासा उठाई त्यसको निरनकरण गरिएको छ । कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी सञ्चालित हुने विज्ञानसम्मत सङ्गठनात्म सिद्धान्त हुन्छ । त्यो लेनिनवादी सङ्गठनात्मक सिद्धान्त हो। यसलाई पालना नगर्ने कम्युनिस्ट पार्टीहरू छिन्नभिन्न हुन्छन्र त्यस्तो भएनन्भने पनि तिनीहरूले क्रान्तिको अगुवाइ गर्न सक्दैनन्। नेपालमा २००६ सालमा कम्युनिस्ट पार्टीको स्थापना भयो। २०२२ सालमा विभाजित एवम्छिन्नभिन्न भयो। यसको पुनर्गठन एकता गर्दै आजका अवस्थामा पुग्दा लोकतान्त्रिक विधि र प्रणालीको प्रयोग गर्दा नेता नेतृत्व सही छान्ने लोकतान्त्रिक वैज्ञानिक विधिको प्रयोग गर्दा यसको प्रभाव सकारात्मक र यसको अलावा निरङ्कुश तरिकाले नेतृत्व र नीति छान्दा गलत भई देश नै अन्योलको अवस्थमा परेको छ । पुस्तकालयबाट सामग्री सङ्कलन गरी जबजका दस्तावेजका आधारमा वर्णनात्मक र विश्लेषण विधिबाट विवेचना गरिएको छ ।लोकतान्त्रीकरणको विषयलाई व्यहारमा प्रयोग गर्ने, विधिमार्फत नेतृत्व छनौट गर्ने उच्चतम लोकतान्त्रिक विधिको प्रयोग जनताको बहुदलीय जनवादको प्रयोगका बारेमा उल्लेख गर्ने गरी अध्ययन गरिएको छ ।लोकतान्त्रिक विधि नै विश्वको सर्वश्रेष्ठ विधि हो भन्ने विषय आज पनि उतिकै सान्र्दभिक देखिन्छ भन्ने निष्कर्ष निकालिएको छ ।

प्रस्तुत लेख प्रगतिवादी नेपाली कथाका नारी पात्रहरूमा अनुभूतिको संरचनाले केकस्तोस्वरूपमा र कसरी अभिव्यक्ति पाएका छन्भन्ने प्राज्ञिक जिज्ञासाको समाधानमा केन्द्रित छ । समाजशास्त्रीय कोणबाट प्रगतिवादी नेपाली कथाको वर्गीय परिप्रेक्ष्यमा केही अध्ययन भए पनि अनुभूतिको संरचनालाई आधार बनाएर लैङ्गिक संस्कृतिको विशिष्टीकृत अध्ययन भने हालसम्म भएको छैन । अतः यही रिक्ततालाई पुरा गर्ने उद्देश्य प्रस्तुत शोधको रहेको छ । पछिल्लो समयावधिमा प्रकाशित वर्तमान परिप्रेक्ष्यका प्रगतिवादी नेपाली कथालाई मात्र विषयक्षेत्रका रूपमा सीमाङ्कन गर्दै तिनमा पनि उद्देश्यमूलक नमुना छनोट पद्धतिअनुरूप नारीअनुभूतिले सशक्त प्रस्तुति पाएका कथाहरू चयन गरी सामग्री सङ्कलन गरिएको छ । तिनै निर्धारित कथाहरूको अध्ययनार्थ विश्लेषण विधिका रूपमा साहित्यको समाजशास्त्रीय अध्ययनमा प्रयुक्त प्रमुख सैद्धान्तिक पद्धतिहरूमध्ये रेमन्ड विलियम्सको अनुभूतिको संरचनासम्बन्धी मान्यतालाई अवलम्बन गरिएको छ र अधीनस्थताका दबाब र तनावजन्य एवम्विद्रोहचेतजन्य अनुभूतिका संरचनासम्बन्धी सैद्धान्तिक अवधारणालाई मुख्य विश्लेष्य ढाँचाका रूपमा उपयोग गरिएको छ । तद्नुरूप गरिएको विश्लेषणका आधारमा समकालीन प्रगतिवादी कथाहरूमा प्रयुक्त नारीपात्रका अनुभूतिका संरचनामा वर्तमान नेपाली समाज पनि लैङ्गिक विभेदले ग्रस्त रहेको र अद्र्धसामन्तवादी संस्कृतिबाट विमुक्त हुन नसकिरहेको यथार्थ उद्घाटन भएको निष्कर्ष निकालिएको छ । लेखको अन्त्यमा लैङ्गिक प्रभुत्वका विरुद्धमा निःसृत प्रतिरोधी चेतजन्य नारीअनुभूतिका संरचनाका आधारमा समाज रूपान्तरणको प्रक्रियालाई पनि सङ्केत गरिएको छ ।

Occupational Shift among Dalits

This paper examines how caste relations are affecting conventional caste-based artisan occupations at present changing scenario of Nepali society. Its focus has been to examine how changes in livelihoods have affected the traditional occupational status of Dalits in semi-rural parts of the Kaski district. Relationship between Dalit and non-Dalit families, traditional artisan and occupations have been an integral part of Nepalese society and culture. They have bound Nepali families together based on their livelihoods. Patron-client relationships between Dalits and non-Dalits, on the other hand, were based on an unequal relationship. This relationship is labeled “unequal” because the people belonging to the Dalit community have been discriminated all life in social practices while having a no way out to escape from the clutches of the cashless peasantry and artisan occupations of the 'Balighare and Hali pratha' while lagging behind in land ownership. Sewing, Ploughing, and Blacksmithery, works based on birth were common. This form of patron-client relationship where the upper castes exploitatively extracted more from what the Dalits had to offer is best termed as an “unequal relationship”. For the purpose of this qualitative research, on-site interviews were arranged with the sixty members from the Dalit households, as per the consent and availability of the participating families. All of them had a history of working the traditionally assigned artisan occupations, while some of them still continued doing so. Most respondents have terminated 'bali pratha' which was based on patron-client relationships between Dalits and non-Dalit families. The young generation shows indifference to the forefather's occupation. Different factors, like the market-based production system and migration trends and the influences of urbanization encourage them to change their traditional occupations. Large numbers of Dalits are now employed in non-agricultural areas for a living. Similarly, livelihood diversification is helping weaken the caste-based occupation in the study area.

Socioeconomic Conditions of Apple Growers in Marpha, Mustang District

Socio-economic condition of the farmers plays a crucial role in agriculture. Apple is one of the key fruits with potential to generate income and employment in the high mountain districts of western Nepal. The objective of the study has to analyze the socioeconomic status of apple grower in Marpha of Mustang district. A total of 145 households have been sampled out of 235 households by using simple random sampling technique and interviewed with a semi-structured questionnaire to obtain data regarding socioeconomic condition, production, marketing channels, cost and apple price from apple growers as well as secondary sources of data obtained from the District Agriculture Development Office and Temperate Horticulture Development Center, Marpha, Mustang with other published and unpublished documents. The study concluded that socioeconomic conditions of marginal farmers have significantly improved during the last three decades because of apple farming. Seasonal road and poor marketing infrastructure, underprivileged technical knowledge, unavailability of inputs in time, insect pest damage and lack of storage facilities, price disparity and low quantity of production have been noticed major production and marketing problems in the study area.

Exploring Antenatal Health Care Service Utilization in Nepal: A Comprehensive Analysis

The utilization of maternal health care is one of the important factors in reducing the incidence of maternal mortality. Studies in Nepal and in developing countries shows that various demographic, socio-economic and economic factors are associated with ANC service utilization. The main objective of this study is to identify and examine socio-demographic and economic factors affecting antenatal healthcare service utilization in Nepal. This study used data from the Nepal Demographic and Health Survey 2016 and analyzed the data using logistic regression analysis. This research analyzes ANC (antenatal care) concerning dependent variables: age, birth order, religion, ethnicity, educational attainment, province, residence, and wealth indices. Maternal health has been receiving increased attention in the global health, development, and human rights agenda, representing a priority area for accelerating progress on the SDGs and sustaining the gains of the MDGs. Bivariate analysis was conducted for all variables, and some of them were statistically significant at the 5 percent significance level (since p < 0.05). The dichotomous use of modern maternal healthcare utilization, namely whether a woman utilized maternal health care or not, employed dichotomous logistic regression to determine which factors best explain and predict the outcome of maternal health care utilization during pregnancy. A positive estimated value indicates that the odds favor the event and the event is likely to occur, while a negative value indicates that the event is not likely to occur. ANC visits of women decrease with birth order. Based on empirical results, the major factors for ANC services were income, awareness, access to health care services, and birth order attended. The level of awareness among women about the utilization of maternal healthcare in the study area was low. Maternal healthcare service utilization differed across various components of maternity. It would be better to increase awareness about the utilization of modern maternal healthcare for mothers and improve access to healthcare services in their villages to minimize transportation costs and waiting times from the government's side, thus increasing the utilization of maternal health care services in Nepal.

Nepal is home to a wide range of natural resources which often become a source of dispute among different stakeholders. The paper explores the conflict associated to Natural resources which covers classes of interest group, disagreements, public protests, physical assaults, and the filing of cases in courts. It has been prepared by collecting data from primary and secondary sources when unstructured observation, focus group discussion and interview with respondent were conducted for primary data and books, journals were used for secondary data. The Balakhu village was selected purposively to study of condition, use pattern of natural resource in the village. Differences between rules and behavior, social relations, and the incompatibility of goals, actions and interactions framed in their specific context and time would be considered in analyzing resource conflict. Such conflict can be resolved by using formal practice of rule and regulation or law and using informal practice of traditional methods.

Wage Theft of Nepali Migrant workers in Destination Countries: Grave Violation of Migrants’ Right

Wage theft is the grave violation of human rights and labour law of migrant workers which varies with background characteristics of migrants. Despite the international and national legal and policy provisions, the issue of wage theft has been increasing over time which compounds with the humanitarian crisis. The main objective of this article is to examine the drivers of wage theft of Nepali migrant workers at destination countries. Cross sectional design was used in this study in which 241 Nepali migrants were interviewed who were returned from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Malaysia and other countries. Of the total respondents majority were from age group 25-29 (26.14%), from Janajati caste (38.17%), married (78.42%) and from Koshi Province (33.20%). The duration of stay, documentation status, status and places of case filing of Nepali migrant workers has the strongest effect on implementation of salary agreement [24 months and above (OR=20.397, CI: 4.345-95.739), undocumented status is significantly lower i.e. (OR=0.278, CI: 0.147-0.526), and the absence of case file (OR=7.362, CI: 3.437-15.768)]. Similarly, the unpaid status of Nepali migrant workers is also significantly associated with duration of stay and caste/ethnicity [6-12 months (OR=16.6333, CI: 2.548-108.589) and Dalit (OR=0.763, CI: 0.202-2.885),]. The level of education and knowledge on minimum salary is also significantly associated with coercive working situations [lower secondary (OR=0.047, CI: 0.012-0.178) and having no knowledge (OR=0.993, CI: 0.509-1.938)]. The study reveal the fact that the prevalence of wage theft among Nepali migrant workers is high among migrant living in longer period of time, migrants with knowledge on minimum salary, illiterate migrants, undocumented, migrants without agreement paper, and low paid migrants. For improving both working situation and full with timely payment, the migrant sending and receiving countries need to adopt proper legal and policy provisions with their effective execution.

Construction and Reconstruction of Subjectivity Towards Nation, Nationality, and Citizenship: Analysis of the Changes during the Last Five Generations

This paper has explored whether and how globalization, politics/power, and fields construct and reconstruct the subjectivity of people toward nation, nationality, and citizenship over the generations. I found no scholars have talked about why and how people's subjectivity was reconstructed over the generations. By analyzing data from five generations of the Karki family of Khothang and Udayapur, as a unit of analysis, to which I belong, I have found that before, 1900 AD, caste, race, religion, occupation, and cultural practices were major dominant factors for constructing and reconstructing the subjectivity of people towards nation, nationality, and citizenship but after 1900 AD, State and national politics become the most dominant factor. However, at present, the role of the nation has become weaker and shifting towards the global market because of the increasing connectivity to global society. The concepts of global citizenship, global market, and human rights have been playing a vital role in constructing and re-constructing new forms of subjectivity towards nation, nationality, and citizenship. Here, I argue that whenever state/political power becomes weak, the subjectivity of people would be formed by their fields.

The researcher has explored on the importance of humankind’s ability to survive in nature by considering the viewpoints of the Yale School critics, the New Historicists, and the ecologists also.
