Dalits are primarily artisans who engage in various tasks such as crafting temple idols, cobbling shoes, ploughing fields, sweeping the streets, and playing musical instruments like the lyre and tum-tum. They utilize their skills and perform the duties expected of them. However, they get fewer wage and they are hated, humiliated, discriminated, exploited and traumatized in the society by the upper caste people and the nation even in this 21st century. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to illustrate the presence of caste discrimination and untouchability as depicted by the researcher. The research is significant due to its focus on the inhuman treatment and miserable existence of Dalits in the same society. The exploration of diverse cultures and cultural practices is valuable to academia. The research was conducted using a library-based qualitative approach, utilizing relevant texts and sources to analyze the representation of caste discrimination and untouchability in Dulāl's poem. The researcher has implemented cultural studies perspective and the ideas of Stuart Hall as main and other theorists’ ideas as supporting tools for theoretical parameters. The data were collected by text information, description and record keeping. The researcher finds that as a poet, Dulāl seriously raises question that how Dalits are considered untouchables and distanced them by the so called touchable in Nepali society. Dalits present everywhere so, the speaker strictly demands freedom from every type of shackles of discrimination and untouchability. Freedom from such evil practice is inevitable for Dalits in human civilization. So, it is the representative voice of Dalits in general.
Shyam Lal Magarati Copyright (c) 2023 Research Management Cell, Surkhet Multiple Campus 2023-09-26 2023-09-26 2 1 1 9 10.3126/surkhetj.v2i1.58742 Butterfly Diversity in Kakrebihar Forest Area, Birendranagar, Surkhet, Nepal https://www.nepjol.info/index.php/surkhetj/article/view/58743
Butterfly diversity changes with habitat and meteorological factors. They are facing threats due to many environmental and anthropogenic causes so need their diversity and status investigation to initiate conservation programs. The butterfly diversity study was conducted at Kakrebihar protected forest, the first government protected forest, during January to December 2021. The data was collected using Ocular Point Observation Method. Capture and release method along with photography was used for butterfly identification. Total of 431 individuals of 33 species of butterflies were recorded belonging to 24 genera and 7 families. Among recorded families of butterflies, Nymphalidae was dominant family followed by family Hisperiidae. Among recorded butterfly species, 17 species were very common, 15 were common and one was rare. The total butterfly diversity and evenness were recorded to be high in the study area.

The butterfly diversity was found to be high during post-monsoon season followed by monsoon and pre-monsoon season and its lowest during winter season.
Buddhi Ram Oli Manoj Sharma Birendra Shahi Copyright (c) 2023 Research Management Cell, Surkhet Multiple Campus 2023-09-26 2023-09-26 2 1 10 19 10.3126/surkhetj.v2i1.58743 Research Paradigms in English Education: A Brief Overview https://www.nepjol.info/index.php/surkhetj/article/view/58744
The researcher's worldview for the particular investigation is the research paradigm. So the main objective of this paper is to examine various forms of research paradigms with the library study attempting to link with English education. The description is tried to make clear by linking with examples of selected an issue. For this, the paper starts by introducing a research paradigm as the looking glass to the world. So it is the lens of the researcher through which the study is completed. It was found that positivism is based on objective reality which is most appropriate in natural science and post-positivism is the modification (of positivism) as demands more interaction between the researcher and participants. On the other hand, interpretivism is to understand the issue from an insider's view and constructivism is aimed at social construction. Furthermore, criticalism is to improve the situation of the oppressed, and feminism is purposeful to empower females. Moreover, pragmatism is to generate context-based knowledge and post-modernism is to explore representational knowledge. In a sense, integralism is to integrate different paradigms within one single research. This paper also explores the components of the research where ontology is a study of reality, epistemology is the study of knowledge generation, and methodology is the process of doing the particular research. It implicitly reflects the axiology as the study of value systems. Overviewing the various shifts from traditional to relatively today's research, the specific issues are selected in connection to English education and suggested to link them contextually.
Dipendra Kumar Khatri Copyright (c) 2023 Research Management Cell, Surkhet Multiple Campus 2023-09-26 2023-09-26 2 1 21 29 10.3126/surkhetj.v2i1.58744 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Online Classes in Economics Education in TU, Nepal https://www.nepjol.info/index.php/surkhetj/article/view/58745
This study intends to investigate how ICT is used for online economics classes and how students view online learning. This study has used a mixed-methods research approach to accomplish the objective. The quantitative findings from the student survey and the qualitative data gained from the evaluation of key informant interviews have provided a level of understanding. Total 28 students of Master Level Economics Education admitted in Mahendra Ratna Campus, Tahachal were taken for the study to investigate the issues. TU altered its academic calendar and closed physical sessions beginning on March 24, 2020, following the finding of the first case of COVID-19 in Nepal on January 23, 2020, in an effort to limit the impact on students' learning and time. The university then made the decision to switch to an online teaching mode. The objective of this action research is to analyze the role of ICT for online classes, to measure students’ positive and negative reactions regarding online classes, and the problems underlying in online classes. The major findings of the study include infrastructure need to be enhanced for the expansion of ICT Services and use of ICT in education. The majority of students said that their online learning experience was normal and online classes were of good quality. Infrastructure connectivity is deemed to be adequate. Online learning platform is new among teachers and students and met educational needs and maintained regularity. Smart Phones were major device for remote learning.
Rajendra Pokhrel Anju Pokhrel Copyright (c) 2023 Research Management Cell, Surkhet Multiple Campus 2023-09-26 2023-09-26 2 1 31 40 10.3126/surkhetj.v2i1.58745 Students’ Self-Correction: A Strategy for Writing Improvement https://www.nepjol.info/index.php/surkhetj/article/view/58746
The purpose of this action research is to find out why students are disinterested in writing and implement self-correction technique to motivate them in writing. I purposively selected the participants for this study consisting of 35 students of grade six studying in one of the schools in Surkhet valley. The study was based on Exploratory Action Research (EAR) with mixed-method approach in which I employed questionnaire, discussion and note-copy observation as the tools for data collection. After reviewing the data self-correction technique was taken into action. The result indicates that self-correction technique enables the students’ writing along with motivating and developing their interest in writing. This study encourages the teachers and ELT practitioners to conduct similar studies in other skills of language learning to explore and implement student-centered teaching strategies in the classrooms.
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
डम्बर बहादुर Dambar Bahadur खत्री Khatri Copyright (c) 2023 2023-09-26 2023-09-26 2 1 69 79 10.3126/surkhetj.v2i1.58807
