Abstract

Current status of the Tabla course at the postgraduate level at Tribhuvan University

Music is an important genre under fine arts. Singing, playing, and dancing are defined as music as a whole. Percussion instruments are considered an important part of music under music. In terms of use, Tabla is the most popular percussion instrument in classical music. There is a history of learning and teaching of paired plucked instruments played with both hands since ancient times in Nepal. With the establishment of Tribhuvan University for the development of higher education in Nepal, formal study and teaching of music began, and along with music, formal study of Tabla also began. Currently, a four-year undergraduate program is being conducted at the Fine Arts Campus under the main subject of Tabla and a four-semester-based postgraduate program is being conducted at the Central Department of Fine Arts of Tribhuvan University. In the present article, what is the curriculum? What should be the objective of the curriculum? Along with raising the issues of what is the curriculum? The postgraduate Tabla curriculum has been made the main subject of analysis. While informing about the overall structure and form of this curriculum, its positive aspects and areas that need improvement have been analyzed. The curriculum is implemented by Tribhuvan University. This research article has been prepared with the expectation of providing information about this course to the Central Department of Fine Arts, current students, students interested in studying in the future, researchers in the field of music, and Tabla subject experts, and providing support and guidance in research work. The article has been prepared by collecting facts through primary and secondary sources. It is also intended to support the relevant subject experts in future curriculum revisions, revisions, etc.
