Abstract

Kathmandu valley is a fast-growing metropolitan city experiencing rapid growth in population and vehicles. Already congested narrow roads and haphazard driving and parking has made the matter worse. To combat this issue, the off- street car parking systems has been considered as one of the alternative solution by experts in the field. The unregulated on-street car parking system in the valley makes the study difficult and very unreliable. The study of off-street car parking systems provides us with a much reliable indicators. This study analyzes off-street car parking lots in the Kathmandu Valley, focusing on three parking lots within the city: New Baneshwor, Labim Mall, and Bishal Bazzar, over three days (Friday to Sunday). The analysis identifies distinct hourly parking patterns: left-skewed in New Baneshwor, right-skewed in Labim Mall, and uniform in Bishal Bazzar.
