English, being a foreign language in the context of Nepal, has ever remained a challenge due to limited authentic exposure, especially in speaking. Adopting the phenomenological research design, this study uncovers Nepalese EFL learners’ lived experiences on anxiety in speaking English and the strategies they adopt to tackle the anxiety. The study employed semi-structures in-depth interviews among four purposively chosen Master level students of English Education and the collected data were analyzed using thematic approach as suggested by Braun and Clarke (2006). The findings reveal that the students experience anxiety primarily due to fear of making mistakes and negative evaluation, limited exposure to English, and overemphasis on accuracy. To cope with these challenges, the participants reported to have employed such strategies as self-directed practice, preparation and rehearsal, positive self-talk, relaxation techniques, and engagement in supportive learning environments.
