Purpose: This study examines the determinants of entrepreneurial intention among university students in Kathmandu Valley by applying Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB).
Methodology: An explanatory research design was adopted. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire from 405 university students enrolled in various academic institutions in Kathmandu Valley using non-probability convenience sampling. The data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SmartPLS 4 to assess the measurement model and examine the structural relationships among the study variables.
Findings: The findings reveal that attitude toward entrepreneurship and perceived behavioral control significantly influence students’ entrepreneurial intention. The study also identifies major barriers, including limited access to capital, fear of failure, inadequate mentorship, and regulatory constraints. Furthermore, the findings highlight gaps in institutional support and the limited integration of practical, experience-based entrepreneurship education within university curricula.
Implications: Universities should strengthen entrepreneurship education through market-oriented, experiential, and skill-based programs. Supportive institutional environments, mentorship, and opportunities to develop confidence, ambition, and entrepreneurial competence may enhance students’ entrepreneurial intention and promote future entrepreneurial behavior.
