Abstract

This study explores challenges and opportunities of the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology Education (BICTE) program under Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal. There is a literature gap in the prior research examining BICTE qualitatively. The study aims to examine how academic leaders perceive the program’s implementation using qualitative case study method. Research participants include the head of the departments, program coordinators and a program initiator. Data were collected through in-depth, semi structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings show infrastructure gaps, weak faculty recruitment/ retention and limited industry linkages as major challenges. While the program’s blend of ICT and education gives it a chance to grow. But there is a need of better resource planning and industry connections. Some institutions have already tested local resource-sharing, mandatory laptop, and industry-partnership initiatives. This study also offers policy and institutional implications to strengthen the BICTE program.
