Mission and Scope:

Journal of BPKIHS (JBPKIHS) is a scientific, biomedical publication of B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal. JBPKIHS is published as a continuation of Health Renaissance as per the decision of the 23rd Academic Committee meeting of BPKIHS held on the 1st February, 2016. The change coincides with a print and online redesign and integration into a more cohesive global online network. It is to emphasize that the mission and scope are essentially the same as that of Health Renaissance for which it had stood for and worked towards over the past thirteen years.

The main mission of the journal is to act as a means of for improving the quality of health care and medical education, particularly in the context of developing countries with limited resources. It aims to achieve the above mission by providing a standard platform to the physicians, scientists, administrators and educators all over the world in various fields of health profession and medical education for sharing their experiences and views and for disseminating the results of scientific researches related to these fields.

JBPKIHS would be of interest to all those who are involved in patient care, biomedical research, education of health professionals and administration of health services and community at large. The journal accepts original articles, review articles, case reports, brief communications and letters to the editor. The journal agrees to use the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journals". All materials submitted to this Journal should confirm to these requirements. Detailed guidelines for submitting a manuscript to the journal have been given at the end of this issue. Authors are requested to follow these guidelines carefully while preparing the manuscript, for quicker acceptance and publication of the same in the journal.

Peer Review Process

The author has to submit their manuscript according to JBPKIHS Author guidelines section policy.

  • All submitted article will undergo national/ international peer review with blinding for two peer reviewers, simultaneously. If the decision conflicts between two, it will be sent to third peer reviewer.
  • The typical review will take minimum 4-6 weeks which includes 2 weeks for peer review and remaining weeks for peer review handling process. However, this may take little longer due to unseen workloads.
  • When the article is received from peer reviewer there will be one of the following outcome and the decision choices include:

Accept Submission: The submission will be accepted without revisions.

Revisions Required: The submission will be accepted after minor changes have been made according to the reviewer's comment.

Resubmit for Review: The submission needs to be re-worked, but with significant changes, may be accepted. It will require a second round of review, however.

Resubmit elsewhere: When the submission does not meet the focus and scope of JBPKIHS.

Decline Submission: The submission will not be published in the journal.

All comments received from the reviewers will be passed on to the authors within 4-6 weeks after getting back from the reviewers. Regardless of whether or not the submission is accepted for publication, it is essential that appropriate feedback is provided to the contributors.

JBPKIHS respect the views, opinion, comments and decision of the reviewer. However, the right for acceptance and rejection of the manuscript is reserved with the Chief Editor, on the basis of maintaining the integrity of the science, following the guideline of ICJME, WAME, CSE, COPE.

The editors will be responsible for directing the manuscripts to the appropriate reviewers who have the knowledge and/or expertise in the requisite fields. Each manuscript will be accepted (sometimes on a conditional basis pending suggested changes) or declined based on the reviewers' comments, and other factors by Editor-in-Chief decisions. In the case of a controversial ground-breaking article that could have a far-reaching impact on the field, further reviews may be sought. The decision ultimately rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

Peer Reviewers will be provided with Review Guidelines, once they accept to review the submission. JBPKIHS will rate reviewers on a five-point quality scale after each review.

Manuscripts accepted for publication are copy edited for grammar, punctuation, print style, and format. Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author. The corresponding author is expected to return the corrected proofs within three days. Non-response to galley proof may result in the delay of publication or even rejection of the article. The whole process of submission of the manuscript to final decision and sending and receiving proofs is completed online.

Publication Frequency

Two issues of the journal are published in a calendar year.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
